Chaplin Mutuals Vol. 3

Chaplin Mutuals Vol. 3
"One A.M." In this amazing pantomime showcase, Charlie arrives home inebriated and tries to get into his house, upstairs, and to bed.(If your house was decorated this way, you too might come home drunk!) The only other live actor is Albert Austin in a hit as a cab driver, the real supporting cast is made of malevolent props, including the most recalcitrant of all folding beds. "The Pawn Shop" Charlie finds another entry-level job, this time as a pawnbroker's helper. The objects in the shop provide a cornucopia of great prop-related gags, none more famous or better remembered than the ailing alarm clock on which Chaplin performs extended surgery. "The Floorwalker" The first Chaplin Mutual, inspired by Chaplin's visit to a New York department store. The little fellow is a lowly clerk, of course; Eric Campbell is his embezzling manager; and the unforgettable prop is a fantastic escalator to which eighty years of comic descendants have paid homage. "The Rink" Chaplin was always inspired by food service and returned to it often throughout his career; this very funny film has Charlie as a waiter who then somehow adjourns to a rollerskating rink where we see him as a vertuoso on wheels, a skill he demonstrated again twenty years later in "Modern Times.
